It is my privilege to serve as your Dean and to welcome you to a community deeply dedicated to discovery, innovation, and academic excellence.

Here in CNMS, we are driven by a shared passion for understanding the world and the universe around us—from the fundamental laws of physics to the complex ecosystems of our oceans and the intricate workings of biological life. Our college brings together exceptional minds across Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Marine Biotechnology, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics. Whether our teams are investigating astrophysical phenomena, tackling pressing environmental challenges through the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology, advancing computational biology, biotechnology, and translational life sciences, or applying their skills in Naval or Military Sciences, our research and education missions operate at the cutting edge.

We believe that the most impactful science is interdisciplinary and collaborative. To prepare our students for the future, we are exploring our educational horizons with forward-looking initiatives, including the development of interdisciplinary degree tracks and programs. By continuously modernizing our curriculum and pursuing vital resources—such as significant external research support from agencies like the NIH and NSF—we ensure that our faculty and students have the tools they need to lead in their fields.

At the heart of our mission is an unwavering commitment to inclusive excellence. We strive to cultivate a college environment where every student, researcher, and staff member feels valued and empowered to succeed. This means fiercely supporting our community from their first undergraduate classes through to their doctoral dissertations and beyond, ensuring a robust and diverse pipeline of scientific talent.

To achieve our strategic goals, we rely heavily on strong, shared faculty governance. By prioritizing data-informed decisions and fostering an environment of transparent collaboration, we are able to continuously refine our academic programs and better serve our community.
